Small towns are the best place to find yards with ample space to roam — and many of those small towns are located in the outskirts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Lawn Starter analyzed the average yard acreage for 2,000 U.S. cities using data from the Federal Housing Finance Agency. All cities in the top 10 have a population under 50,000 — including No. 8, Weatherford, which has an average yard size of 0.81 acres (the national average is about half an acre).
Two other Dallas-adjacent small towns cracked the top 100: Waxahatchie, which boasts an average yard size of 0.632 acres, and Midlothian, which has an average yard size of 0.57 acres, just above the national average.
The town with the largest yards was Carney, Maryland, where the typical yard is a whopping 1.14 acres.
